New Digital Map: Underground Pipes and Cables Fueling Growth

The rising digital chart of power and broadband lines, gas and water pipes, and other underground structures is now available across the total of England and Wales in a boost to profitable growth and public services for people across the country. 

The National Underground Asset Register( NUAR) will revolutionize the way we install, maintain, operate, and repair the pipes and lines buried beneath our bases, growing our frugality and reducing dislocation to the public. 

It has expanded content to include the South East, South West, North West, Yorkshire, and The Humber and East of England. 

NUAR incorporates data from all the leading energy and water suppliers (Welsh Water and Cadent Gas), UK Power Networks, and a number of leading telecoms providers (CityFibre, Vodafone O2, etc) as well as smaller providers, transport organizations, and original authorities. 

It’s estimated to deliver £ 490 million/ y( circa£ 5 billion over a decade) of profitable growth through increased edge in construction and development, lower accidental damage to pipes and lines, and reduced dislocation to the public and businesses( from extended road closures and traffic), as well as bettered workers ’ safety. The Geospatial Commission also published a design update, including participating information on a discovery design, supported by the Government Office for Technology Transfer, to explore the eventuality of increased profitable growth that could be realized through widening access to the vital public asset, including openings for the wider request.

Background 

There are an estimated 4 million km of underground pipes and lines across the UK, with a hole being dug every 7 seconds for the purpose of installing, repairing, maintaining, or repairing these critical infrastructure services that are essential for water treatment, gas, and electricity supply and our telecommunications networks…
